Teatro Greco, Taormina

Taormina Teatro Greco

Teatro Greco, Taormina

An original painting of Teatro Greco Taormina by Julie Colclough, from her Top-to-Toe Italy Collection. Julie cannot resist sketching this view each time she visits this stunning location. Her sketchbooks always inspire the larger finished paintings which are completed in her studio gallery on the historic Rows of Chester. Hiding in the layers of paint you can find an old map of Sicily.

This magnificent view of Mount Etna through the ruins of Teatro Greco is also the backdrop for many concerts and operas in Taormina. Julie and her daughter spent a memorable evening watching Aida here, with the sun setting beyond the volcano.

This original Taormina painting is now framed and available for purchase.

This ancient theatre was built by the Greeks in the third century BC and had seating for ten thousand spectators. 600 years later it was rebuilt by the Romans and remains in use to this day.
