Ravello

A painting inspired by Julie’s sketch from the gardens of Villa Rufolo during one of her visits to Ravello and Amalfi.

The original Ravello painting sold very quickly to a customer who had lived in this area of Italy. A small edition of just 75 prints can be purchased in various sizes, framed or unframed.

Visit the gallery to see new paintings of Italy celebrating over 50 years of Italian travels. Julie Colclough’s unique paintings from her regular painting trips capture Italy from Top to Toe.

Reached by a little local bus via several hairpin bends (an experience in itself), Ravello is a must visit for anyone travelling to Amalfi or Sorrento. As usual, this painting by Julie Colclough tells a story: hiding in the background you can find old maps revealing the local geography and history under the layers of paint.

Villa Rufolo has been attracting famous people for centuries, including Richard Wagner, Greta Garbo, and D.H. Lawrence, who wrote Lady Chatterley’s Lover here. We loved the three miles of twisting mountain roads from Amalfi up into the hills to the gorgeous village of Ravello and it’s incredible views.
